| Listen to Harry explain why he prefers this rod over any other for smallmouth and largemouth bass fishing. | ||||||
The ideal bass fly rod has a strong tip to facilitate picking up bulky surface bugs and heavy underwater flies. The rod should have medium-slow butt section because these bugs and flies are wind resistant and this fly rod action blends perfectly with their natural air speed. This design gives you great accuracy in your fly placement. Its smooth action lets you cast all day without arm-fatigue. On the pick up cast it easily slides bulky surface bugs off the river’s surface film with no loud gurgling noise that would quickly scare the smallmouth or largemouth bass. The two piece design reduces future ferrule problems and the absence of a fighting butt reduces line-shooting problems. The Murray/Scott Bass Rod is constructed with these goals in mind and they are a joy to use. They are built exclusively for us in both 7 weight and 8 weight fly line sizes. If you plan to fish primarily for largemouths the 8 weight is ideal because it handles the large bugs perfectly. If you plan to fish both for largemouths and smallmouths and use many size 4 bugs, the 8 weight will cover all of your needs. If you plan to fish mostly for smallmouths and use only a few bugs size 4 with most of your flies and bugs smaller that size 4, then the 7 weight rod is ideal. Using one of these fine rods for your bass fishing assures you a lifetime of very rewarding angling. |
